Zoo Day

We decided to make another trip to the zoo Saturday morning. Our last trips, we were worn out by the time we made it to the monkeys and rhinos, so we toured in reverse order this time. Laurie enjoyed the petting area so much. We couldn't get her to pet anything, but she enjoyed running from one animal to the next like a little maniac, giggling the whole way.

This was our very first time on the carousel. Dada said Momma gets an F for picking a horse that doesn't go up and down, but judging from all the laughter Laurie made, I don't think it made a difference. She rode like a pro, kicking her heels and holding the pole.

Just as our last trip to the zoo, I think she still loves the giraffe the most, I guess I do too. He sure is funny looking with his long neck and big spots. We were so lucky to have a zoo keeper at his cage just as we passed. He shared some interesting comments on giraffes and we got to see him hand feed the giraffes some leaves. What a treat!

Shiloh Splash Park

We are always on the lookout for something new and fun to do to burn off a little energy. When we heard about the splash park, we knew it was just for us. Laurie is still not thrilled about water splashing right in her face, but she loved, loved this fun little slide. I wasn't sure at first if she could handle it on our own, I hovered and wanted to hold her hand, but by the time we left, she was doing it all on her own while I sat on the sidelines. Mommy has such a BIG girl! Our time went like this: slide, slide, slide, slide, run around the park, slide, slide slide, run through the grass, slide, slide, slide, steal snack food, have our own snack, slide, slide, slide, and finally home for nap time. The cute little girl in blue in the first pic befriended Laurie and spent most of her time chasing after Laurie and "helping" her around the park.

Bass Pro Shop

Who needs the zoo when you can see animals up close at the bass pro shop? Laurie saw lots of cool animals: bears, deer, aligators, sheep, turkeys, and lots of fish. She loved the big aquarium!

Beautiful Sunday in Yazoo City

We had beautiful weather this weekend. It seemed a perfect day to head to Yazoo City, Uncle Charles and Aunt Laura had the same idea! Daddy got some fishing in while Laurie napped, then we had a blast riding the four wheeler and scooting around the pond in the canoe. Laurie loved to lean waaaay over and stick her hands in the water. She needs to learn not to rock the boat a little better! Laurie was really impressed by Cousins Charlie and Jane Grey's swimming skills. I kept thinking she was going to try and join them!

Mo Glo

Laurie is coming around in her opinion of Mo Glo. At their first meeting, Laurie didn't want to even touch her; then, I'll pet her, but don't put me on that thing. Now, she looks like a seasoned cowgirl sitting atop her noble steed. She even wanted to hold the reins. The first pics are from Cousin Jane Grey's birthday party, the next is from Sunday in YC. We can't get enough of Mo Glo.

Laurie in Natchez

Laurie and I and spent a few fun days in Natchez. While we were there, we tried out Laurie's gills in Aunt Sue's pool. Laurie was a little leery at first of all that deep water, but she warmed up fast and enjoyed splashing around and watching her big cousins play. The highlight might be the sugar cookies.

On Saturday, Daddy came up and we drove to the lake for a boat ride. It was pretty hot, but Laurie was such a trooper, especially when Granda let us drive the boat.

Hiding Out

If you ever need Laurie for something and can't seem to find her, try looking under her bed. She enjoys spending time under there, tucked away from the world, shrouded by the bed skirt, busily pulling out anything I thought to store (diapers, baby clothes, wipes).

In the last weeks, Laurie has become very attached to her paci. I guess she's acquired a little insecurity. Our usual rule is that paci lives in the bed, if she wants paci, she has to go to bed. And that seems to be fine with her. I try to get her up and she yells 'NO!' at me and snuggles down. There are tons of toys in her bed, what more could a girl want? She pulled this blanket over her head the other day, as if she thought I couldn't see her still in there.

Fourth of July Weekend

We had a big fourth of July weekend. Daddy was off on Friday and Monday. We headed off to the zoo first thing Friday morning, I could kick myself for forgetting the camera. It was Laurie's first trip to the zoo when she really seemed to enjoy the animals and laughed and giggled at all of them. To make up for that, after we got home, Daddy put up our new swing and Laurie swung until she couldn't swing anymore. What a hit!

We headed over to Yazoo City for a little vacation in the country. Laurie is doing so much better at 'gentle'. But she was very interested in how big the horse's eyes were and really wanted to poke them. The highlight of our trip was the pond shocking. Laurie slept through most of it, but it was really interesting watching the men from Pond Management 'shocking' the pond and picking up the fish. Daddy got to ride in the boat and had an up close view of things. They weighed and measured all the fish before releasing most of them. We may have kept a few for dinner. Daddy offerred for Laurie to touch a fish and she did enthusiastically with both hands, I think the slime may have turned her off because she wouldn't go near them after that.
